BIOS flashing

Laptop: Acer Helios 300 (G3-572)

Ram: 2x team group elite 16gb 3200mhz CL22 ram

Was trying to upgrade my laptop from 2x 8gb ram to 2x 16 gb ram. My laptop was bought on 2018, so is getting old, upgrade with new parts is bound to get complicated. Had to also consult external help to complete this quest. This project is to demonstrate my ability to work out of my comfort zone in order to get what I want.

  • With 2 of the new sticks installed, it wasn’t booting up. However, with only 1 of the new stick, together with 1 old stick, it boots. Strange. Fired up CPU-Z, found that it is running at a limited speed of 2666mHz.

  • I drop my problem to the internet experts, while I worked on a solution myself.

  • But wait. With 2 new stick installed, the laptop is still able to boot into Bios. Something is limiting my progress to home screen, need to find.

  • With my knowledge from my internet friend and personal diagnose, I was able to find people with the same problem, of different laptop. It was a manufacturer set limit.

  • Knowing what the problem is, I bought a BIOS flashing kit. Took a photo of my BIOS chip and send it to my internet friend for some BIOS coding. Within a week, I clip my kit on and pray it doesn’t brick my laptop. Eh Viola, here we are using this laptop to make this website.
